A randomized controlled trial of treatment with intermittent negative pressure for intermittent claudication
Journal of Vascular Surgery Oct 29, 2020
Hoel H, Pettersen EM, Høiseth LO, et al. - Researchers examined how lower extremity intermittent negative pressure (INP) treatment one hour two times daily for 12 weeks affects walking distance in patients with intermittent claudication (IC). They randomized 72 patients with IC to treatment with -40 mmHg INP (treatment group), or -10 mmHg INP (sham control group). Of these patients, 63 patients were available for intention-to-treat analyses. Findings revealed that relative to sham treatment, treatment with – 40 mmHg INP improved pain free walking distance (PWD) in patients with IC. The patients with baseline PWD < 200 m had an increase in both PWD and maximal walking distance compared with sham treatment.
