Annals of Surgery Aug 16, 2017
Aloia TA, et al. – This randomized trial primarily compared thoracic epidural analgesia (TEA) to intravenous patient–controlled analgesia (IV–PCA) for pain control over the first 48 hours after hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery. In addition, the authors assessed patient–reported outcomes, total narcotic utilization, and complications. In major HPB surgery, TEA seemed superior regarding improved pain control and less narcotic use, without increased length of stay or complications.
