A randomized controlled trial of postoperative intravenous acetaminophen plus thoracic epidural analgesia vs thoracic epidural analgesia alone after gastrectomy for gastric cancer
Gastric Cancer Aug 12, 2018
Kinoshita J, et al. - In the present study, researchers tested the effectiveness of routine intravenous (iv) acetaminophen combined with thoracic epidural analgesia (TEA) for managing postoperative pain in gastric cancer surgery. For this investigation, 120 subjects who had distal gastrectomy were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to receive iv acetaminophen every 6 hours and TEA during the first 3 postoperative days (acetaminophen group) or TEA alone (control group). The results from this prospective, multicenter randomized study indicate that routine iv acetaminophen in combination with TEA provides better postoperative pain management vs TEA alone in gastric cancer surgery patients.
