A randomized, controlled trial of mindfulness-based stress reduction in HIV infection
Brain, Behavior, and Immunity Jun 06, 2018
Hecht FM, et al. - Via performing a randomized controlled trial, researchers investigated if an intervention aimed at improving stress management and emotion regulation, mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), would improve immunological (i.e. CD4+ t-cell counts) and psychological outcomes in persons with HIV-1 infection. Compared to an active control arm, MBSR resulted in higher improvement in positive affect in the 3 months following the start of the intervention. However, over the 12-month follow-up, this difference was not maintained and intervention groups demonstrated no significant differences in immunologic outcomes.
