A randomized, controlled trial of magnetic therapy for carpal tunnel syndrome

Muscle & Nerve Jul 05, 2018

Baute V, et al. - The feasibility and efficacy of a magnet inserted into a wristband for treating carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) was evaluated in this randomized, controlled trial. For this investigation, 22 subjects with mild to moderate CTS were randomly allocated to wear a high-dose or low-dose “sham” magnetic wristband for 6 weeks. The Symptom Severity Scale (SSS) of the Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire was the primary outcome. Nerve conduction studies (NCS), median nerve ultrasound, and compliance were the secondary measures. The findings from the present study suggested that magnet therapy via wristband was well-tolerated, but improvements in the mean SSS, NCS, and median nerve ultrasound were not statistically significant.
