A randomized-controlled trial of early endotherapy vs wait-and-see policy for mild symptomatic pancreatic stones in chronic pancreatitis
European Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology Jul 15, 2019
Saito T, et al. - In this randomized-controlled trial involving 20 patients, researchers investigated the effectiveness of early endotherapy for mild symptomatic pancreatic stones in comparison with the wait-and-see policy. Study participants were enrolled between March 2008 and March 2011. Due to bad patient registration, the research was terminated early. Investigators found that early endotherapy in mild symptomatic chronic pancreatitis was linked to a trend toward a minor number of acute attacks and atrophy progression of the pancreas in a small group of patients. In terms of diabetic status and the presence of steatorrhea, there have been no significant variations.
