10.1016/j.ajem.2020.05.010, et al. - In view of the verified neuroprotective role of high dose IV magnesium in severe TBI, researchers here examined whether oral magnesium replacement following a concussion will reduce the overall symptomatic period allowing a quicker return to functional baseline. They conducted a randomized cohort study of patients aged 12–18 who presented within 48 h after a concussion; this study had a treatment arm including acetaminophen, ondansetron, and magnesium PO and a placebo arm of acetaminophen and ondansetron. Outcomes revealed acute reduction in symptoms in correlation with providing oral magnesium replacement following a concussion. Hence they support providing it with symptomatic management following a concussion in the emergency setting.
