A randomised controlled trial of pectoral nerve-2 (PECS 2) block vs serratus plane block for chronic pain after mastectomy
Anaesthesia Sep 27, 2019
Fujii T, Shibata Y, Akane A, et al. - Researchers compared the analgesic efficacy of PECS 2 block vs serratus plane block for relieving chronic pain post-mastectomy. Participants were 80 women who were randomly assigned equally to PECS 2 block or serratus plane block. A decline in the rate of moderate or severe chronic pain was noted with the PECS 2 block vs serratus plane block. At 6 postoperative months, health-related quality of life was similar between both groups. A decrease in morphine consumption in the first 24 postoperative hours was evident with PECS 2 block. Overall, a reduction in chronic pain at 6 months post-mastectomy was induced by PECS 2 block vs serratus plane block.
