A randomised controlled trial of a walking training with simultaneous cognitive demand (dual task) in chronic stroke
European Journal of Neurology Oct 17, 2018
Meester D, et al. - In this two-arm, parallel, randomized, controlled trial of complex intervention with blinded assessments, researchers assessed the tolerability of, adherence to, and effectiveness of a community walking training program with simultaneous cognitive demand (dual-task) vs a control walking training program without cognitive distraction. Study participants included 50 adult stroke survivors, ≥ 6 months after stroke, with a visibly obvious gait abnormality or reduced two-minute walk distance. Results suggested that walking with specific additional cognitive distraction (dual-task training) might increase activity over 12 weeks; however, data were not conclusive.
