A qualitative investigation of how mothers from low income households perceive their role during family meals
Appetite Apr 17, 2018
Trofholz AC, et al. - Researchers carried out a qualitative investigation among United States mothers from minority and low-income households (from the Twin Cities, Minnesota), to gain information regarding mothers' overall perception of their role during family meals. As perceived by mothers, they had a large and varied role during family meals including helping children make healthy choices at family meals, making the meal happen etc. Also, they were willing to put effort into family meals and wanted them to be enjoyable. To support mothers, encouraging fuller family participation in family meals and offering mothers quality nutrition and parent feeding practice information can be helpful.
