A prostate cancer composite score to identify high burden neighborhoods
Preventive Medicine Apr 15, 2018
McIntire RK, et al. - Researchers created a novel geo-based metric, the prostate cancer composite (PCa composite) score, to identify neighborhoods with high burdens of prostate cancer and compared this metric to other methods to prioritize neighborhoods for prostate cancer interventions. They found that the PCa composite score displayed accuracy as a metric for prioritizing neighborhoods based on burden. They also noted that priority neighborhoods would have been very different and not based on PCa burden if neighborhoods were prioritized based on percent African American or median income. Public health decision-makers can utilize these methods to prioritize and select neighborhoods for cancer interventions.
