A prospective study examining cachexia predictors in patients with incurable cancer

Vagnildhaug OM, et al. - Through a secondary analysis of a prospective, observational, multicentre study carried out on 628 incurable cancer patients, the researchers targetted to identify predictors of cachexia development and to formulate and assess the certainty of a predictive model based on these predictors. Significant predictors of cachexia like initial weight loss, cancer type, appetite, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease were recognized. To construct a predictive model of cancer, identification of important predictors of cachexia was ascertained. A combination of important risk factors for the development of cachexia to stratify patients in terms of cachexia risk was suggested.
