A prospective randomized study comparing postoperative pain, biological fixation, and clinical outcomes between two uncemented rotating platform tibial tray designs
Journal of Arthroplasty Oct 30, 2019
Hegarty P, et al. - Researchers compared patients receiving primary total knee arthroplasty with either LCS Complete POROCOAT (porous coating only) or LCS Complete DUOFIX (porous coating plus hydroxyapatite (HA) and pegs) knee systems with respect to postoperative pain, radiographic evidence of biological fixation, and clinical results in this prospective, randomized controlled single-blinded study. Overall 197 patients (205 knees) were selected and were followed for up to 10 years. Findings revealed no benefit of the tray design with HA and additional fixation pegs as far as early postoperative pain and patient-reported outcomes were concerned, although significantly fewer radiolucent lines (RLLs) resulted from it. Excellent survivorship was displayed by both implants. Considering nonprogressive RLLs as normal, with a cementless porous-coated tibial component, was recommended.
