A prospective randomized double-blind study to compare the early recovery profiles of desflurane and sevoflurane in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy
Journal of Anaesthesiology Clinical Pharmacology Apr 22, 2019
Gangakhedkar GR, et al. - In American Society of Anesthesia I and II patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy, researchers compared sevoflurane to desflurane with respect to early recovery profiles. A total of 30 participants were randomized to desflurane and 30 to sevoflurane. For this, they used Bispectral Index System to determine the depth of anesthesia. The events during the recovery phase were recorded by an independent adjudicator who was blinded to the agent used. They also recorded time required for extubation, eye opening, verbal response, and achievement of a modified Aldrete score of 9. In the desflurane group vs the sevoflurane group, a significantly shorter time was required for early recovery from anesthesia.
