A prospective randomized double-blind study of pain control by topical calcium channel blockers vs placebo after Milligan-Morgan hemorrhoidectomy
International Journal of Colorectal Disease May 09, 2018
Yadav S, et al. - Researchers intended to gauge the variation in the extent of pain control by application of topical calcium channel blocker (diltiazem 2%) vs placebo ointment at Sawai Man Singh Hospital, Jaipur, from May 2016 to May 2017. Subjects who had undergone hemorrhoidectomy were randomly assigned to receive 2% diltiazem ointment or a placebo ointment postoperatively. It was determined that perianal application of 2% diltiazem ointment after hemorrhoidectomy considerably reduced the postoperative pain and appeared to be beneficial. In contrast with the placebo group, substantially less number of analgesic doses were consumed in the diltiazem group.
