A prospective, randomized controlled trial evaluating the effectiveness of the fluid immersion simulation system vs an air-fluidized bed system in the acute postoperative management of pressure ulcers: A midpoint study analysis
International Wound Journal May 14, 2019
Mendoza RA, et al. - Researchers performed the first study comparing fluid immersion simulation system (FIS) vs a representative air-fluidised bed (AFB) in the acute postoperative management of pressure ulcers (PUs). In this trial, they included 40 subjects (18 to 85 years of age) with ≤2 PUs and history of <3 surgical closures and having undergone reconstruction by one surgeon. The groups were similar in terms of flap failure rate. The FIS group and the AFB group included 19 and 21 subjects respectively. The FIS group had higher minor complications rate, particularly dehiscence. In the FIS, nurse and patient self-reported acceptability had better mean numeric scores compared with AFB.
