A prospective observational study of the change in systemic ionised calcium following 4% citrate locking of venous haemodialysis catheters in intensive care patients
Anesthesia and Intensive Care Jul 05, 2018
Shewdin S, et al. - In this prospective observational study, researchers determined the impact of 4% citrate locking of venous dialysis catheters on systemic ionised calcium (iCa2+) in intensive care patients. They analyzed arterial blood gas (ABG) prior to venous dialysis catheter locking and obtained a baseline iCa2+ result. Following catheter locking with 4% citrate solution, further analysis of ABG and comparison of the iCa2+ results was carried out. Findings revealed no clinically significant impact of locking of venous dialysis catheters with 4% citrate solution on systemic iCa2+ in intensive care patients with indwelling venous dialysis catheters.
