A prospective observational study of predictors of difficult intubation in Indian patients
Journal of Anaesthesiology Clinical Pharmacology Apr 21, 2019
Narkhede HH, et al. - Researchers assessed parameters related to difficult intubation, as well as to test on new set of patients. They intended to propose a simple predictive rule to decrease the number of false alarms. Participants were 483 Indian population patients, in whom age, sex, weight, height, interincisor gap, mandibular length, neck movement, neck circumference, subluxation of mandible, sternocricoid distance were measured and factors related to difficult intubation were investigated. The application of these on next 480 patients of prospective series was done and a simple predictive rule in form of risk sum score was created. In this study population, the two most sensitive predictors of difficult intubation were interincisor gap and sternocricoid distance. Better anticipation of truly difficult intubations could be possible with the help of risk sum score of more than 6.
