A prospective cohort study of 122 adult patients presenting to an otolaryngologist's office with globus pharyngeus
Clinical Otolaryngology Apr 19, 2018
Rasmussen ER, et al. - Researchers probed the epidemiology of globus pharyngeus in adult patients presenting to the otolaryngologist's office. They also evaluated the predictors of persisting symptoms, prevalence of anxiety and the effect of clinical assessment. In the otolaryngologist's office, the incidence of globus was 3.8%. Even if symptom remission had occurred, female gender and concomitant foreign body sensation were predictive for presenting to the clinic. For persisting symptoms, the male gender, smoking and self-perceived breathing difficulties were predictive. Otolaryngologist could provide reassurance regarding globus which was identified as an anxiety-causing symptom.
