A preliminary 18F-FDG-PET/MRI study shows increased vascular inflammation in moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis
The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: In Practice Aug 14, 2020
Ungar B, Pavel AB, Robson PM, et al. - This study was conducted on patients (n = 27) with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (AD) and healthy people (n = 12), to evaluate aortic as well as carotid vascular inflammation using 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance imaging in patients vs healthy individuals. Experts computed target-to-background ratio values in multiple segments of the aorta and carotid vessels. In this preliminary study, a greater vascular (aorta and carotid) inflammation was established in moderate-to-severe AD vs healthy controls, for the first time ever. Findings revealed higher inflammation in very severe AD vs both moderate/severe patients and healthy controls.
