A preliminary clinical trial comparing wet silver dressings vs wet‐to‐dry povidone‐iodine dressings for wound healing in pemphigus vulgaris patients
Dermatologic Therapy Feb 25, 2021
Chen J, Zou Q, Hamblin MR, et al. - To determine whether wet silver‐containing dressings are efficacious for wound healing in pemphigus vulgaris (PV), researchers compared wet silver‐containing dressings (n = 28) vs wet to dry povidone‐iodine dressings [control (n = 30)] in 58 patients with PV skin erosions (10‐70% body surface area) included in this randomized, controlled clinical trial. A significant improvement in the number of dressing changes, wound healing time, and duration of hospital stay was evident among patients in the treatment group vs the control group. Significantly lower NRS pain scores and better subjective satisfaction were present in patients managed with wet silver dressings vs the control group. Overall, findings demonstrated the safety as well as the effectiveness of wet silver‐containing dressings for the treatment of wound healing in PV patients.
