Burke WT, et al. - The effect of 1 week of post-discharge fluid restriction to 1.0 L daily on rates of post-operative readmission for hyponatremia was investigated. Hyponatremia could be a life-threatening complication of transsphenoidal pituitary surgery (TSS). Prevention of readmission for hyponatremia could help in improving patient safety and decrease costs. The mandatory post-discharge fluid restriction was a simple and inexpensive intervention correlated with decreased rates of readmission for hyponatremia and normal post-operative sodium levels.
