A potential link between polycystic ovary syndrome and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease: An update meta-analysis
Reproductive Health May 17, 2018
Wu J, et al. - Researchers conducted an update meta-analysis to investigate the association between polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and the risk of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) development through studies published until May 2017. They performed stratified analyses to investigate if NAFLD is associated with PCOS as a consequence of shared risk factors, or if PCOS contributes to NAFLD in an independent fashion. Results suggested a significant association of PCOS with high risk of NAFLD. This association was dependent of androgen levels, which is the main feature of PCOS, and was interrelated to insulin resistance.
