A positive bacterial culture during re-implantation is associated with a poor outcome in two-stage exchange arthroplasty for deep infection
The Bone & Joint Journal Nov 05, 2017
Akgun D, et al. - An inquiry was set up with regard to the incidence of positive cultures during the second stage of a two-stage revision arthroplasty. An independent connection was unveiled between positive culture at re-implantation with subsequent failure. Surgeons were cautioned regarding this link and were recommended to consider the medical optimisation of patients with severe comorbidities both prior to and during treatment.
