Lu CL, et al. - Using Taiwan’s National Health insurance claims data, authors determined the potential association between type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and epilepsy, along with the role that severe hypoglycaemia (SH) possibly played in the relationship. A higher incidence rate of epilepsy was reported in subjects with T2DM compared to controls. It was determined that T2DM increased the hazard of epilepsy by approximately 50%. Findings disclosed the independent risk factors for epilepsy to be T2DM and SH.
