A population-based examination of the co-occurrence and functional correlates of chronic pain and generalized anxiety disorder
Journal of Anxiety Disorders Apr 23, 2018
Csupak B, et al. - Researchers sought to establish the prevalence of co-occurring chronic pain conditions (i.e., arthritis, back pain, and migraines) and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), and to examine levels of pain severity, disability, and work absenteeism among comorbid chronic pain conditions and GAD. The Canadian population showed a common occurrence of chronic pain that was noted to be associated with substantial disability. Observations suggest that among chronic pain conditions, GAD is prevalent, and comorbidity is associated with greater pain severity. They recommended GAD to be an important treatment target to reduce disability, particularly in the context of migraines.
