ENT Journal Oct 29, 2019
Chiesa-Estomba CM, et al. - In this pilot study, researchers tested the safety and the feasibility of sialendoscopy-assisted transfacial approach in parotid gland sialolithiasis. It included five patients; all operated satisfactorily. The approach suggested by McGurk and modified by Capaccio was used in 4 of them, and Nahlieli's proposed approach was used in 1 of them. Findings suggested that the sialendoscopy-assisted transfacial approach could be regarded as a useful technique. Proper planning ensures that the treatment of parotid gland lithiasis is optimally achieved. When working near to a branch of the facial nerve is suspected, the use of facial nerve stimulator provides extra safety.
