A pilot study of a novel specs for chronic dizziness
Acta Neurologica Scandinavica Jun 10, 2018
Gordon CR, et al. - Researchers evaluated the effectiveness and safety of a novel specs device using eyeglasses with referential marks fixed on the lenses intended to alleviate chronic dizziness. In a 4-week, double-blind study, 40 patients with over 3 months of stable symptoms of chronic dizziness were randomized to treatment with Active-Specs or Sham-Specs. Using validated semiquantitative scales and questionnaires of vertigo, dizziness and anxiety, efficacy was evaluated. No adverse events related to the treatment was found in this investigation, and 67% of those treated with Active-Specs reported considerable improvement of symptoms compared 33% of those treated with Sham-Specs. For chronic dizziness, this novel specs device appeared to be a harmless and promising novel treatment.
