A pilot study investigating the impact of topical nasal steroid spray in allergic rhinitis patients with dry eye
International Archives of Allergy and Immunology May 10, 2018
Yenigun A, et al. - In patients with a diagnosis of allergic rhinitis and dry eye, researchers assessed the impact of nasal steroid treatment on intraocular pressure and dry eye. Nasal steroid treatment brought about significant improvement in Ocular Surface Disease Index scores for dry eye symptoms but no significant change was detected in the right or left eye in the Schirmer test. No significant change was observed in the right or left eye for the tear film break-up time and in an intraocular pressure test. Overall, with nasal steroid therapy, significant improvement was seen in the symptoms of dry eye with allergic rhinitis, with no observed impact on the intraocular pressure.
