A pilot study comparing the efficacy of two formulations of botulinum toxin type A for muscular calves contouring
Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology Sep 20, 2018
Wanitphakdeedecha R, et al. - Experts compared the effectiveness and safety of prabotulinumtoxin A (PRA) and onabotulinumtoxin A (ONA) in gastrocnemius muscle reduction. Twenty-two patients were randomized to receive 100 units PRA and ONA on each calf and were asked to come for follow-up visit for up to 6 months. Comparable efficacy and safety were provided by PRA and ONA in gastrocnemius muscle reduction. The two groups showed no significant reduction on both maximum torque and average work value in the isokinetic analysis. No statistically significant difference was demonstrated by the patients’ satisfaction rate and doctor's evaluation between both groups.
