A pilot randomized clinical trial of brief behavioral treatment for insomnia to reduce problematic cannabis use among trauma-exposed young adults
Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment Jun 18, 2021
Short NA, Zvolensky MJ, Schmidt NB, et al. - Considering that an important etiological role may be played by insomnia symptoms in substance use disorders, researchers herein examined if an improvement in sleep could result in reductions in problematic substance use among at-risk populations. They conducted a pilot RCT testing Brief Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (BBTI) among 56 trauma-exposed cannabis using young adults. As per outcomes, BBTI is possibly efficacious in lowering insomnia symptoms as well as reducing cannabis-related problems and cravings when compared with waitlist control.
