A novel, palatable paediatric oral formulation of midazolam: Pharmacokinetics, tolerability, efficacy and safety

Salman S, et al. - Researchers further assessed the pharmacokinetics, tolerability, efficacy and safety of a novel chocolate-based tablet formulation of midazolam in 150 children aged 3–16 years who were being prescribed midazolam as a premedication. These study participants were randomly administered 0.5 mg.kg-1 either as the novel formulation or an intravenous solution given orally, which is the current standard at their institution. They found that use of the novel chocolate-based formulation of midazolam as a premedicant for children offered improved tolerability, showed efficacy with suitable pharmacokinetics.
