A novel ECG parameter for diagnosis of acute pulmonary embolism: RS time
The American Journal of Emergency Medicine Jul 01, 2019
Rencuzogullari I, et al. - Researchers investigated the QRS duration and RS time in inferolateral leads for their diagnostic value in patients admitted to the emergency department, and pre-diagnosed with acute pulmonary embolism (PE). Computerized tomographic pulmonary angiography was performed on 136 consecutive patients with the clinical suspicion of acute PE for confirming their PE diagnosis. PE was diagnosed in 68 of these patients (50%). As per findings, RS time could be measured as a novel electrocardiography (ECG) parameter for each patient. They identified the potential utility of a longer RS time as an index for diagnosing acute PE and estimating the RV end-diastolic diameter and systolic pulmonary artery pressure.
