A new simplified and accurate sa-SOFA score
Journal of Critical Care Mar 06, 2020
Charles-Hervé V, Arnaud F, Jean I, et al. - As the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) was designed in the nineties in accordance to that time clinical practices, several remarks have been raised regarding the variables and cut-points used in the SOFA score. Researchers here revisited the SOFA score and formulated a new simplified and accurate sa-SOFA score. In the simpler sa-SOFA, the same variables are kept but with a reduction in the number of cut-points. In this study, they grouped four prospective cohorts (2005–2016) of patients with Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome and gathered 28-day mortality, sociodemographic characteristics, and the SOFA score with all variable values at Day 1. They assessed 1,436 participants; of these, 416 died within 28 days (28.9%). The sa-SOFA was identified as more accurate in predicting the 28 day mortality.
