A network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials on the treatment of eosinophilic esophagitis in adults and children
Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology Jan 09, 2021
Rokkas T, Niv Y, Malfertheiner P., et al. - This study was undertaken to compare the effectiveness of different treatments for eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). Researchers conducted a network meta-analysis using relevant randomized control trials on EoE to combine direct and indirect data to evaluate the effectiveness of drug therapies. They introduced 17 eligible studies (14 two-arm and 3 multiple-arm) to the meta-analysis. There were 15 therapeutic interventions used in a total of 1,011 patients. The results exhibited that budesonide 1 mg orodispersible tablet twice daily was the best treatment for EoE, as it was the most effective seen in this meta-analysis. In adult patients, this treatment remained the optimal approach; in pediatric patients, fluticasone was the best treatment.
