A need-based approach to self-management education for adults with co-morbid diabetes and chronic kidney disease
BMC Nephrology Apr 09, 2019
Zimbudzi E, et al. - Researchers determined the self-management education requirements for patients with comorbid diabetes and chronic kidney disease (CKD), and codeveloped an educational resource to meet these needs. They conducted semi-structured interviews among 42 patients with comorbid diabetes and CKD who were visiting a codesigned, patient-centered outpatient diabetes and kidney clinic at a tertiary metropolitan hospital. An educational resource in the form of a DVD was favored by most of the patients and, according to them, current education could be improved. These participants displayed education gaps in the management and complications of diabetes and kidney disease, and these gaps may potentially be filled by means of a targeted education resource in the form of a DVD.
