A national survey of the prevalence and impact of cytomegalovirus infection among hospitalized patients with ulcerative colitis
Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology Feb 14, 2018
Grossberg LB, et al. - The effect of cytomegalovirus (CMV) was estimated in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC). The authors further compared these outcomes to patients with CMV without UC. They found an association between CMV infection in hospitalized patients having UC with a longer length of stay, increased total charges and fewer routine discharges but not with increased surgery or mortality. Worst outcomes of all groups were noted in patients with CMV alone. This data suggested that CMV in UC patients could not exert the same negative impact as in other diseases.
