Diabetes Care Aug 26, 2017
Ely EK et al. – This study assessed the implementation of National Diabetes Prevention Program (National DPP) based on participant–level results from the first 4 years of implementation. The National DPP was widely implemented with successful early results. Higher percentage of body weight loss in both overall and subgroup population was achieved through greater duration of program participation and intensity of session attendance.
Methods
- Descriptive analysis included data from 14,747 adults in year–long type 2 diabetes prevention programs during the period February 2012 through January 2016.
Results
- The median attendance was 14 sessions over an average of 172 days in the program.
- Overall, 35.5% met the 5% weight loss goal and 41.8% met the physical activity goal of 150 min/wk.
- Participants lost 0.3% of body weight for every additional session attended and every 30 min of physical activity. (P<.0001).
