Spine Dec 22, 2018
De la Garza Ramos R, et al. - Researchers examined 17,275 children aged 10 to 18 years in a retrospective study to recognize the prevalence and hazard factors for discharge to a rehabilitation facility after corrective surgery for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). Respiratory failure, reintubation, and postoperative hematoma were the most common complications observed. They found male sex, revision surgery, and development of perioperative complications as the significant predictors of discharge to rehabilitation resulting in significantly longer lengths of stay and healthcare costs.
