A multicenter study on definitive surgery for isolated hip fracture within 24 hours
The Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Jan 07, 2021
Ang D, Anglen J, Ziglar M, et al. - In management of isolated hip fractures (IHFs) in the elderly, definitive surgery ≤ 24 hours of admission is linked with improved outcomes. Researchers sought to determine the feasibility of an IHF process management guideline (IHF-PMG) to expedite definitive surgery ≤ 24 hours, developed for a multihospital network, and reported subsequent patient outcomes. In this prospective multicenter cohort study, which involved 85 levels 1, 2, 3, and 4 trauma centers, they prospectively obtained data on 24,457 IHF. Implementation of goal-directed IHF-PMG for definitive surgery ≤ 24 hours was observed across a large hospital network. Observations revealed lower inpatient mortality in correlation with implementation of the IHF-PMG.
