A multi-center, prospective clinical trial of a hepatic derived porcine surgical mesh for the laparoscopic repair of symptomatic paraesophageal hernias
American Journal of Surgery Apr 05, 2019
Rosen MJ, et al. - The results of a prospective multicenter trial that evaluated a unique, biological mesh (MIROMESH) derived from decellularized porcine liver for hiatal cruralplasty during laparoscopic PEHR were reported. A laparoscopic PEHR which included primary crural closure, and MIROMESH onlay, was performed on 41 subjects. They noted mean procedure time of 143.0 (±45.2) minutes, 93% with a Type III hiatal hernia and median LOS of 3 days. In this multicenter trial, during laparoscopic PEHR, MIROMESH use for crural reinforcement led to excellent symptomatic improvement with a 10% 2 year radiographic recurrence rate.
