A meta-analysis of the efficacy of vascularised lymph node transfer in reducing limb volume and cellulitis episodes in patients with cancer treatment-related lymphoedema
European Journal of Cancer May 28, 2021
Ward J, King I, Monroy-Iglesias M, et al. - Researchers assessed vascularised lymph node transfer (VLNT) effectiveness in decreasing upper limb (UL) or lower limb (LL) volume as well as cellulitis episodes in patients suffering from cancer treatment–related lymphoedema, through this systematic review and meta-analysis. They explored PubMed, Medline (Ovid) and Embase databases in order to identify relevant studies. They analyzed 31 eligible studies including 581 patients. Findings demonstrated that reduction in excess limb volume as well as cellulitis episodes was effectively conferred by VLNT in both UL and LL lymphoedema following cancer treatment. However, significant heterogeneity in outcome reporting was evident, and standardisation of reporting processes is advised.
