A meta-analysis of the efficacy of gabapentin for treating alcohol use disorder
Addiction May 17, 2019
Kranzler HR, et al. - In this meta-analysis, researchers examined gabapentin's effects on six alcohol-related outcomes, as well as potential moderators, publication bias, and the quality of the studies. Using PubMed and ClinicalTrials.gov, they identified seven randomized controlled trials of gabapentin that met study criteria for this meta-analysis. Findings suggest a higher efficacy of gabapentin vs placebo in treating alcohol use disorder, however, percent heavy drinking days was the only measure on which the analysis clearly favors the active medication. There was no evidence of publication bias and the overall quality of the studies was good.
