A meta-analysis of the efficacy of allopurinol in reducing the incidence of myocardial infarction following coronary artery bypass grafting
BMC Cardiovascular Disorders Jul 18, 2018
Singh TP, et al. - Researchers determined if allopurinol (a xanthine oxidase inhibitor) is efficacious for attenuating the incidence of myocardial infarction (MI). They analyzed data from relevant randomized controlled trials identified via a search of MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases. Two independent reviewers used the Cochrane Collaboration’s tool for evaluating the risk of bias. Using a fixed-effects model, they carried out a meta-analysis, and evaluated heterogeneity with the I2 index. The limited available evidence suggested the efficacy of allopurinol treatment in reducing the incidence of perioperative MI following coronary artery bypass.
