A meta-analysis of survival factors in rhino-orbital-cerebral mucormycosis – Has anything changed in the past 20 years?
Clinical Otolaryngology Jul 02, 2018
Vaughan C, et al. - Experts conducted an extensive Medline literature search for case reports published between 1994 and 2015 to evaluate if the survival outcomes of Rhino-Orbital-Cerebral Mucormycosis (ROCM) have changed in the past 20 years. Nonetheless, no improvement was seen in the overall survival rates, these rates were better in patients with renal disease. This improvement in patients with renal disease was potentially due to the introduction of liposomal amphotericin B which is less nephrotoxic. In this disease, prompt diagnosis and treatment were of utmost importance.
