A meta-analysis exploring the role of PET and PET-CT in the management of potentially resectable colorectal cancer liver metastases
European Journal of Surgical Oncology Mar 27, 2019
Daza JF, et al. - Researchers compared patients with potentially resectable colorectal cancer liver metastases undergoning positron emission tomography (PET)/PET-computed tomography (CT) with conventional imaging, vs conventional imaging alone, regarding their impact. They identified 4034 articles in this search; of these, two randomized trials (n = 554), and 11 non-randomized studies (n = 2251) were included in this work. The study yielded moderate-quality evidence suggesting no improvement in OS or DFS in patients with colorectal cancer liver metastases in correlation with preoperative PET/PET-CT. Results thereby do not favor performing PET/PET-CT routinely in patients with potentially resectable disease.
