A longitudinal analysis of pain experience and recall in fibromyalgia
International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases Dec 20, 2018
Van Liew C, et al. - Researchers sought to assess the pain experiences and memories in fibromyalgia (FM) patients over time. This study included 572 females who were members of a large health maintenance organization who had a diagnosis of FM syndrome (FMS) and met inclusion criteria for the study. A unique means of understanding the maintenance of chronic pain—including factors that affect this process was provided by the experiences and recollections of pain in FM. Findings suggested systematic tendency for historical peak pain (HPP) to be significantly larger than experiential pain (EP) relative to EP vs historical valley pain (HVP). They noted significant decrease in EP and HPP over time, but not HVP.
