Jacobs EJ, Newton CC, Stevens VL, et al. - In view of some evidence indicating a weaker link between BMI and pancreatic cancer risk among current smokers vs among never smokers, researchers investigated the link between BMI and pancreatic cancer mortality in adults who mentioned smoking status at enrollment into Cancer Prevention Study-II in 1982, incorporating 420,543 never smokers, 282,244 former cigarette smokers, and 219,885 current cigarette smokers. The deaths of 7,904 participants due to pancreatic cancer was reported during the full follow-up span from 1985-2014. Findings showed that the observed association between BMI and pancreatic cancer was weaker among current smokers vs among never smokers.
