A genome wide association study on lipoprotein(a) levels and coronary artery disease severity in a Chinese population
Journal of Lipid Research Jun 19, 2019
Liu Y, et al. - In Han Chinese subjects (n=1403), researchers assessed the links between lipoprotein(a) (Lp[a])-associated SNPs and coronary artery disease (CAD) severity in a genome-wide association study on Lp[a] levels. Findings revealed significant association of elevated Lp(a) levels with the increased synergy between percutaneous coronary intervention with TAXUS and cardiac surgery (SYNTAX) score, and the counts of heavy calcified lesions and long-range lesions. They also found significant associations of four independent SNPs (rs7770628, rs73596816 and rs6926458 in LPA, and rs144217738 in SLC22A2) with Lp(a) levels. In addition, the association of rs7770628 with high SYNTAX scores, as well as the link of rs7770628 and rs73596816 with high risks of harboring long-range lesions, was evident in this study. The significance and potential of Lp(a) intervention was highlighted.
