A fatal outbreak of ST11 carbapenem-resistant hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae in a Chinese hospital: A molecular epidemiological study
The Lancet Infectious Diseases Jan 05, 2018
Gu D, et al. - A fatal outbreak of ventilator-associated pneumonia caused by a new emerging hypervirulent K pneumoniae strain (belonging to ST11 type) was investigated. In this work, as ST11 carbapenem-resistant hypervirulent K pneumoniae strains were simultaneously hypervirulent, multidrug resistant, and highly transmissible, they posed a substantial threat to human health. To prevent further dissemination of such organisms, researchers recommended implementing control measures in the hospital setting and the community.
